The Kraken group was founded in June 1984 in the city of Medellin (Colombia) by the following musicians: Jorge Atehortúa (low) Jaime Tobon (rhythm guitar) Hugo Restrepo (lead guitar) Gonzalo Vasquez (drums) Elkin Ramirez (vocalist) 

The following year Mr. Jaime Tobon retires to begin his university studies outside the city of Medellin and is replaced by Ricardo Posada invited by Elkin Ramirez. 

In the second half of 1986 disclosed his first two compositions contained in a single 45 (RPM): "Every man is a Story" and "Free Die". Sales exceeded 10,000 copies. 

In the first half of 1987 market a second single, "Shield and Sword" and "I'm Real" and later that same year they manage to release his first LP which bears his name. 

His first national tour takes place in 1988 with great success and acceptance. In January of the following year guitarist Ricardo Posada retires to start college. 

In late 1989 they released their second album entitled "Kraken II" including keyboards; the song "Dress Cristal" became his first number one in Colombia, making cross borders reaching the top in stations of the Iberian Peninsula and in stations programmed Latin music in cities of the United States, Holland, Germany, Italy and Japan. 

In 1990 with a more progressive sound grouping records and edits the album "Kraken III" on LP and CD format; the theme "Hidden Faces" manages to stay in the top tuning for long. That same year the group is hired to perform a concert in "The polyhedron of Caracas" (Venezuela) against more than 20,000 attendees. 

In April 1991 Gonzalo Vasquez retires to settle in the United States, and with a guest drummer performed in the bullring in his hometown a concert called "The concert of Independence", with the support and participation of the "Army Nacional de Colombia "in front of over 10,000 spectators on Saturday, July 19. 

With a new roster of musicians Jorge Atehortúa and Elkin Ramirez composed, recorded and released in late 1993 album "Kraken IV ... Skin Copper" to pay homage to the Mesoamerican cultures "Maya, Inca and Aztec" with the inclusion of instruments Latin American indigenous. For the launch of the fourth production in late 1993 made his first musical stage show called "The Work"; the theme "Language of my skin" became his third radial success achieved to scale for several weeks tuning the top national and international level. 

During the recording of "Kraken IV ... Skin Copper" Hugo Restrepo guitarist left the group to carry out the realization of personal projects. 

In 1995 they strengthen their career with "Kraken V ... The symbol Footprint" album shows a new musical facet that had not been included in previous albums. The song "Silent Love" bears witness to this transcending and enthrall new generations of followers. Finalizing 1995 bassist Jorge Atehortúa is removed from the band to start as a teacher and business consultant. 

Elkin Ramirez in early 1996 calls and new musicians auditioned to continue performing countless concerts. In addition, it adopts the mode "Kraken Acoustic" to be closer to his followers. 

In May 1997 Kraken is hired to appear for the first time at the festival "Rock al Parque" in Bogotá. 

"A legend of Rock" is his sixth album released in 1999 with the songs "The language of Rock" and "Fragile in the Wind" making the first places in the radio charts of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. That year Kraken is first hired to perform a concert in the Ecuadorian brother country "Agora Theatre" in the city of Quito, making summon more than 7,000 people. 

Kraken starts the riskiest phonographic production so far and between 2000 and 2001 recorded the album "Live ... Kraken footprint and Camino" published in April 2002 for the local market and two years later as a double album internationally. 

In November 2003 the group was invited back to Caracas for a concert that would initiate the project that later became the festival's most important brotherly country Rock and is now known as the "Gillman Fest". 

For the celebration of its 20 years the group is hired to close the "Rock the Park" festival in November 2004 compared to more than 70,000 thousand people. 

On October 14, 2005, Kraken is presented in the "Leon de Greiff" Theater of the National University of Colombia's capital joined by the "Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra"; the next day he made a second presentation under the same mode in the "Rock the Park" Festival, opening the event at one of the afternoon in front of over 50,000 spectators. That same year returns to "Agora Theatre" city of Quito filling all locations. 

In the summer of 2006 he comes to Argentina and participate in the festivals "Villa Gessel" and "Cosquin Rock" media visiting the city of Buenos Aires. Returning to Bogotá, started studio recording the album "Kraken Filarmónico" and performs a third concert with the "Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra" in the month of December at the "El Coliseo de los Deportes" of the Colombian capital for launching. Kraken again that year he was invited to Venezuela to participate in the "Gillman Fest" city "Valencia", this time in front of over 70,000 spectators. 

In 2007 he performs concerts in Ecuador and the United States, closing the year with a tour of five Colombian cities accompanied by Rata Blanca in Argentina. 

In this decade they are produced and edited a couple of albums Tribute to Kraken that highlight their work and artistic commitment: the first is a CD in which artists from the city of Medellin participate; the second is a "Double Album" containing interpretations of rockeras groups most of Latin America and Spain. 

The "Quito Fest" Festival held annually in the Ecuadorian capital hires the artistic services of the group in 2008 and Kraken manages to convene for the first time this prestigious event more than 30,000 spectators. 

Finalizing the 2009 achieved after three years of testing finished composing, recording and producing their tenth album entitled "Kraken ... Human Dehumanization" allowing a new stage; with its live launch celebrates 25 years of experience. 

The tour of the new album began in January 2010 and concluded in December 2012 in compliance with each of its contracts in the country, in front of thousands of fans who had the opportunity to enjoy their energetic staging and likewise he succeeded in his new international visits, "Gillman Fest 2011 Aragua Venezuela", "Plaza de Toros, Quito - Ecuador 2012", "Miami, new York, Washington DC, Philadelphia -USA 2011" 

We firmly believe that 2013 is a year that invites you to become new reality and great art projects that will allow Kraken continue creating your next compositions and performing excellent concerts at national and international level and we want to highlight the great work being carried out next to her lead singer Elkin Ramirez's current roster of musicians: Luis Ramirez (bass) Andrés Leiva (lead guitar) Ruben Gélvez (keyboards) Julian Puerto (drums) Ricardo Wolff (second guitar). 

For 2014, commemorating our 30 years of musical life, are three dates "Kraken Filarmónico" in the city of Bogota with the participation of New Philharmonia Orchestra and the Philharmonic Choir of Bogota; launched a commemorative DVD live "Kraken 30 years, La Fortaleza Titan" and will soon be ready the book with the story of the band. 

With their faith titan that is, Elkin Ramirez, vocalist and leader of the group of Antiochian rock, Kraken, personally delivered a report on the state of health that is, after the last July was subjected to a delicate operation to remove a malignant tumor in the left parietal front. 

Ramirez, from the recovery site, sent a thank you to the people who have raised prayers for his recovery and that their messages have helped deal with this difficult situation. He also revealed that during the next 12 months will undergo a difficult process to control the tumor that affected much of the functions of your body. 

"I shall put about 12 months to a treatment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy and beginning next week to expect a full or partial improvement with the removal of the malignant tumor, called aggressive, lethal fibrous" said the vocalist. 

According to the rocker, the problem that afflicted him impossible mobility of the right limbs: hands feet and also the eye. The right vocal cord, hearing and smell more, but has been recovering slowly. 

On medical advice, the Titan, as is known, will have to keep bed rest for 12 months, but said his colleagues will return to the recording studio to bring forward its next production which hopes to join when fully recovered. "I hope soon to get on a stage stop sharing with all of you," he said in his message Ramirez. 

Kraken is one of the most experienced rock bands of the national scene with 31 years of artistic history, with a history widely known in Colombia and reached recognition in the US and Europe.
